Description
Ukigumo acer is a very special variety of acer not so commonly seen in gardens. It emerges a brilliant white speckled with green and eventually matures to a glossy green with white speckles before turning orange in the autumn.
Ukigumo is fully hardy in the UK climate and prefers an indirectly or partially lit area of the garden to thrive. Protection from harsh winds is a must as it can burn its tender leaves.
Acers are a stunning ornamental plant that are deciduous in nature. Their ability to display a variety of colours throughout the year makes them the perfect centre piece plant for any garden. Acers can be planted in pots, containers or garden borders and must be sheltered from windy areas! They also thrive in peat rich soils.
Ukigumo From Rhs: "The foliage of this unusual Japanese maple can be so highly patterned that it appears almost white. Each leaf is unique however, so the degree of patterning can vary (even from year to year), and each leaf's colouring will usually change with the seasons too. Typically though, you may expect to see some near-white leaves, some highly speckled green and white leaves, some lightly speckled green leaves (all of which can have pink overtones), and then in autumn, shades of yellow, red and orange leaves before they are shed"
